We leave no one behind
 

GPE supports countries with the greatest education needs and targets the hardest-to-reach children.

Our funding goes to children often left behind, especially in countries affected by fragility and conflict, which have some of the highest rates of out-of-school children and the lowest levels of learning: 70% of children reached through GPE grants since 2021 live in these countries.

To bring as many children to school as possible, the government of Punjab is implementing a variety of activities under the TALEEM program, funded by a GPE grant.

A GPE-funded program – implemented in partnership with Save the Children International, Concern Worldwide and the Federal Government of Somalia – is improving access to quality education for Somali children.
Syria: The hardship and hope of children
Over 10 years of conflict in Syria have upended lives and disrupted education for millions of children. Temporary learning spaces give children the opportunity to learn basic skills and receive psychological support.

Yemen: Keeping education going amid conflict
In Yemen, GPE has responded to the changing needs of the education system during over 7 years of conflict, helping to keep students in school throughout one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
Ethiopia: A long-term commitment to education spurs results
GPE has been working closely with the Ethiopian government and development partners to strengthen the country’s education system and improve children’s learning.
Djibouti: Transforming education to build its human capital
A program funded by the World Bank, GPE and Education Above All is helping Djibouti increase equitable access to basic education, improve teaching practices and reinforce management in the ministry of education.

We put gender equality and inclusion at the heart of education systems
 

By putting gender equality and inclusion at the center of all we do, GPE supports governments to involve teachers, parents, students and communities in creating a more equal world.

GPE works to identify and address the specific obstacles faced by girls and boys to help close gender gaps, and enable countries where girls lag furthest behind to make bigger strides. GPE helps partner countries make education more accessible and equitable for children with disabilities.

Bangladesh: Education for Rohingya girls

We support quality teaching and improved learning results
 

Teachers are central to children's learning. GPE helps partner countries improve the quality of education by ensuring that all teachers are qualified, motivated and well supported, leading to better learning results in the classrooms.

GPE's unique model brings together all education partners in local education groups in support of countries' priorities. Together, partners contribute at all phases of the education planning cycle, from analysis to evaluation.

This inclusive approach strengthens the credibility and relevance of education plans and aligns partners behind the priority reforms outlined in the countries’ partnership compacts, ensuring reforms are strongly endorsed by all stakeholders.

GPE supports Nepal with a $20 million grant to build capacity in local governments, improve teacher training, and the quality of education.
Tanzania: Youth advocacy brings meals to a rural school

GPE creates incentives for partner countries to develop financially sustainable education sector plans, increase budgets for education and improve the equity and efficiency of education expenditure.

With innovative financing tools such as the GPE Multiplier, GPE crowds in more external support for education.

By using our funds as catalytic capital to drive more and better financing for education, and by advocating for alignment behind national priorities, GPE achieves a disproportionate impact that goes far beyond the direct funds we invest.

In DR Congo, with GPE support, thousands of children can continue to go to school thanks to efforts to rebuild and equip schools that have been damaged by natural disasters or other crises.
